Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) in the Feed Inspection Program, the Environmental Scientist will sample and analyze results of commercial feed and livestock drugs. The incumbent will independently conduct environmental impact studies related to feed and food safety, take regulatory actions, conduct investigations and inspections, and other duties related to the enforcement of California laws governing the distribution of feed and livestock drugs.

  • Sample, analyze, and interpret results of feed and livestock drugs for product quality, human and animal food safety, and regulatory compliance, including those containing medically important antimicrobial drugs.
  • Evaluate and determine the Feed and Livestock Drugs licensee’s compliance with California and United States Food and Drug Administration’s laws and regulations and they apply to commercial feed and livestock drugs.
  • Review firms Standard Operating Procedures, records, and interview management and staff of manufacturing facilities and document any deviations from federal and state regulations.
  • Perform inspections as part of CDFA’s contract with the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Review firm records relating to the manufacturing and distribution of commercial feed to ensure product quality, human and animal food safety, and regulatory compliance with state and Federal mandates.
