At GDIT, your work supports the U.S. Navy at sea, helping ensure mission readiness and national security. We’re looking for an experienced Alteration Installation Team (AIT) Lead who’s ready to take on high-visibility projects aboard U.S. Naval ships, supporting the integration and installation of critical C5ISR systems.

You’ll join a dedicated, hands-on team working directly with our Navy partners in San Diego, CA—home to some of the Navy’s most important shipbuilding and maintenance operations. If you thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where your leadership can directly influence project success, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do:

As an AIT Lead, you’ll provide technical, administrative, and operational management while guiding a skilled technical team through complex shipboard installations, ensuring top-quality work every step of the way. You’ll be the bridge between the program managers, technical crews, and subcontractors, overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting challenges, and ensuring all deliverables meet Navy standards and timelines.

Manages, directly and through subordinate supervisors, the activities of workers engaged in multiple functional areas of electronic and mechanical production, including electronics assembly, electronic and mechanical fabrication, and repair, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and general labor.

Typical work week is 5 to 6 days, 10 to 12 hours each day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating cross-functional teams on multiple concurrent shipboard installation projects.
  • Overseeing schedules, staffing, materials, and quality assurance for technical deliverables.
  • Assures quality of work meets NAVSEA Standards
  • Providing project updates, technical briefings, and performance reports to leadership and Navy partners.
  • Evaluating staff and subcontractor performance and implementing improvements where needed.
  • Managing logistics, tracking long-lead materials, and resolving any issues that may impact cost or schedule.
  • Supporting long-range planning and collaborating on new system integration designs.
  • Upholding Navy protocols and standards while mentoring your team in compliance and best practices.

What You Bring:

  • 9+ years of experience leading AIT or shipboard integration projects supporting C5ISR systems.
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills —able to manage personnel, logistics, and competing priorities with confidence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools , especially Excel and Project, for tracking and reporting.
  • A commitment to quality, accountability, and supporting the mission of our Navy customers.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance (active clearance preferred).
