The All Saints Home Managed by the Women’s Welfare Society of the Diocese of Bombay is a unique institution accommodating aged women and working girls in the same premises. This is a registered Institution and admission is open to all irrespective of caste or religion. This is the only institution in Mumbai where young ladies and old women are living in the same premises to the mutual advantage of both.
The Institution originally known as All Saints Convent was started in the year 1897 by the ‘sisters of the poor’ who came from Wantage in England. The sisters ran the Girls Diocesan Hostel for working girls and St. Elizabeth Home for aged women. In 1956 the Wantage Sisters left Bombay handing over their work to the Diocese of Bombay. In 1966 the All Saints Convent came to be known as All Saints Home and Welfare Society of the Diocese of Bombay, a registered Charitable Trust with the Bishop of Bombay, as its President The affairs of the Society/Trust are administered by a Managing Committee consisting of members who are devoted to the cause of serving women.
All Saints Home is a unique institution providing for an integrated living of the aged and the young. Sixty aged women and one hundred and sixty young working girls live together in the same premises, eating together, enjoying a common recreation room and library, celebrating festivals and above all caring for one another. Here the young “learn from the wisdom of age” and the old are “cheered by the sallies of youth” . It is the only institution of its kind in the world.
All Saints Home is a safe place for young working girls to live in, particularly for those who are new to Mumbai. The Home is situated at a very convenient place and is easily accessible by rail and road. The Management tries to maintain strict discipline and offers to the inmate’s good security. Girls from almost all the states in India find a home her away from their home. They share rooms, eat the same food and share the joys and sorrows of life together with senior companions.
All Saints Home is a good example of national integration.
